After stints in Boston and San Diego, Jed Hoyer, the Chicago Cubs‘ executive vice president and general manager, has settled down in Chicago. This week, the baseball exec sold a home in short order. Hoyer just closed on a $2,440,000 deal for his five-bedroom home in the city’s Lincoln Park neighborhood. He put the 4,725-square-foot home up for sale in June with a price tag of $2,495,000 and told the Chicago Tribune he was selling strictly for family reasons. And Cubs fans needn’t worry—the GM didn’t stray far. He really did just want something … bigger. Hoyer purchased a six-bedroom home about 3 miles to the north for $3,087,500 in late June. The gorgeous 7,500-square-foot home is located in the city’s Ravenswood neighborhood. Located on a huge lot, the much larger home features a second-floor lofted family room, as well as plenty of oversized windows and high ceilings. Sporting endeavors are also a highlight—the home has a backyard basketball court (near a screened-in porch) and an interior home theater/golf simulator. There’s also a secluded outdoor hot tub and two garages. The home was sold by Jeff Lowe of Compass. “We’re staying in the city,” Hoyer told the Chicago Tribune in June. “We have three boys now, and we bought a place that’s a slightly bigger house but that is on a bigger lot, to give them room. I didn’t want (anyone) to think we’re leaving. We’re happy here and hope to be here for a long time.” A native of Plymouth, NH, Hoyer began his front-office career in 2002 as assistant general manager of the Boston Red Sox. After general manager Theo Epstein left Boston in 2005, Hoyer was a member of the “Gang of Four” (along with the executives Ben Cherington, Bill Lajoie, and Craig Shipley), who ran the Red Sox. In 2009, Hoyer was hired as GM of the San Diego Padres. He spent two seasons out West before rejoining Epstein in Chicago. In 2016, the duo helped lead the Cubs to their first World Series championship since 1908.
